1. What are 5 things you want people to know about your book?

Here are some excerpts from reviews that sum it up best:

As you read, you will fall in love with all that is chronologically old, yet forever young…

I loved sharing this with my 4-year-old. It even gave me a chance to talk about grandparents he didn’t get to meet.

What a beautiful story about a grandmother teaching her granddaughter to appreciate old things. Things that have substance and history and evoke deep appreciation and memories.

The illustrations are warm and cozy, and simply delightful.

This book is an incredible tribute to the sweet relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.

2. What are 5 helpful hints or tips you wish you would’ve known before starting on this publishing journey?

This is more of a list of what I did that was so beneficial to my journey:

Join a critique group or have someone with experience read your manuscript.

Participate in a pitch or writing contest.

Take writing or illustrating classes

Join a group for promoting one another’s books

Have fun in the highs and move quickly on from the lows –celebrate the little wins

too!

3. What are 5 fun/quirky facts about yourself as an adult or child?

I ran track and played basketball in high school.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an Olympian Equestrian Horse Champion,

but my parents couldn’t afford lessons.

While at UC Davis I finally got to take those  equestrian horse riding lessons just for fun.

I started my college career in architecture before switching to sociology and art.

One of my favorite instruments to play is the banjo, though I’m not very good yet.

4. Where are 5 places you find inspiration for your stories?

From my own childhood experiences

My students

My children and grandchildren

Nature. Just being outdoors.

When I’m researching another book I often come across some interesting idea

for another book.

5. What are your 5 favorite picture books and why?

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. It was a favorite of mine as a child – still is today.

Best Word Book Ever by Richard Scarry. I loved the pictures of the little critters and the words.

After these two, I love so many picture books I cannot choose just five.
