1. What is the premise/pitch for your book?

Maddy’s Towers is a gentle story about what happens when trust breaks and how it can grow again, one careful block at a time.

When Maddy’s best friend shares her secret, it feels like a whole tower crashing down. With her mom’s help, Maddy begins to see trust the way she sees her block castles: something built slowly, through kindness and care, and something that can be rebuilt after a fall.

It’s a story about friendship, mistakes, and the small, brave choices that help a tower rise again.

2. What are 5 things you want people to know about your book?

  1. It’s a story about trust and how it can grow tall or fall down.
  2. It shows that everyone makes mistakes, even friends we love.
  3. It helps kids see that feelings matter, especially the big ones.
  4. It reminds readers that trust can be rebuilt, one small choice at a time.
  5. It shows that every friendship has its own tower, and every block counts.

3. What helpful hints or tips can you offer fellow writers about writing, publishing, and promoting a book?

1. Write the small true moment first.

Not the whole book. Not the perfect arc. Just the moment that tugs at you. That’s usually where the heart of the story lives.

2. Revision is where the magic hides.

My first drafts are messy, loud, and confused. Revision is where I finally hear what the story is trying to say. Give yourself permission to discover the book after you’ve written it.

3. Find a critique partner who tells you the truth kindly.

Someone who celebrates your wins and also says, “This page isn’t doing what you think it’s doing.” That combination is gold.

4. Publishing is slow, so build your own momentum.

Celebrate tiny steps: a sentence that finally works, a character who suddenly breathes, a rejection that includes one encouraging line. These are real milestones.

5. When it’s time to promote, think connection, not performance.

Share your book the way you’d share something you made with your hands. Talk to teachers, librarians, and families. Offer something useful, like an activity, a conversation starter, or a moment of care.

4. What are 5 fun/quirky facts about yourself as an adult or child?

1. When I was a kid, I used to line up all my stuffed animals so they could watch my dance performances. They were a very loyal audience and did not complain about the length of the shows.

2. I’m lucky to have the best friends in the world. Our friendship towers are so tall and so old that nothing can knock them down.

3. I love to travel, and I’ve visited more than 25 countries.  Airports feel like adventure doors to me.

4. When I finish a really good book, I miss the characters like they moved away.  I think about them for days.

5. I’ve wanted to write a book for 15 years, and this is my very first one. It truly feels like a dream coming true.

5. What did you learn about yourself while on the journey to publishing this book?

I learned that I can hold onto a dream for a very long time and still meet it with joy when it finally arrives. For years, this book lived quietly in the back of my mind. Writing it taught me that I don’t give up easily, even when the process is slow or uncertain. I also discovered how much I love creating stories that help kids understand their feelings. And maybe the biggest thing I learned is that I’m braver than I thought: sharing something so close to my heart with the world is its own kind of courage.
