1. What is the premise/pitch for your book?
In this lyrical story, a child moves with their family to a new house. Each step of the journey is a gentle reminder that home is more than a place. (Elva Resa)
2. What are 5 things you want people to know about your book?
*This book was chosen as the 2026 Book for the Military Child.
*This book resonates deeply with military families, but this book and topic are for every family that has to move, only once, or quite frequently.
*Important takeaway: Home is not always a place. Example: To me, Home is family, memories made together, and our traditions; as long as we were together, the house/place did not matter, just like in the story.
*Make sure to look at the Instant-photographs, with children, they help tell the story.
*Kids love to find the family dog and dragon on each two-page spread; the dragon can be tricky! Quinette did a fantastic job with those ‘easter egg’ moments!

3. What helpful hints or tips can you offer fellow writers about writing, publishing, and promoting a book?
My important tips for being an author of a children’s book are: be patient, keep writing, find your writing community, and research to find the best publisher/agent for your book, or body of work. As for promoting a book, so far, the only thing I can say is do those things/events you are comfortable with. For me, it’s going into libraries or schools and reading/talking with the kids!
4. What are 5 fun/quirky facts about yourself as an adult or child?
*I was an elementary school teacher for 10 years before starting on this path of writing picture books.
*I started out writing middle-grade fiction, but slowly gravitated to picture books.
*As a child, I lived overseas near Madrid, Spain, and Ramstein, Germany.
*I swam on a German swim team and played varsity volleyball in high school. (Kaiserslautern American High School)
*As an adult, I taught at two different schools on military bases in Okinawa, Japan, and later lived on a base near Keflavik, Iceland, with my family.
5. What did you learn about yourself while on the journey to publishing this book?
I learned that family is the most important factor in creating a home, anywhere in the world. The actual house/dwelling or place does not matter. Being together, creating memories, and sharing traditions that last, is most important!
